The Estate Office was advised today that the Fire Service was called out to Goulden House in the early hours of this morning (5 Fire Engines arrived on site at 1.40 am), to extinguish a lit cigarette end on a balcony, the prompt reactions of pro-active residents from the sighting of the smoke, to calling the Emergency Services, prevented the fire from taking hold. In these current temperatures, fires can take hold easily and the discarding of a lit cigarette end, could have caused serious damage to life and property. We have continuously advised residents not to discard cigarettes from balconies above and the last reminder was only issued on 23rd July, when a lit cigarette end was discarded from a balcony above and caused damage to a patio table within a ground floor garden.
We will request a report from the Fire Service and if the location of the discarded cigarette is contained within that report, the appropriate action will be taken with the individual (s) concerned.
DO NOT DISCARD CIGARETTE ENDS/ASH FROM YOUR BALCONIES – THIS IS A CLEAR BREACH OF HEALTH, SAFETY, FIRE & SMOKE REGULATIONS AND COULD COST A PERSON/PERSONS THEIR LIVES.
